About this course

Business and management combined with Russian is a degree that opens access to one of the world's largest and most complex economies, as well as to a cultural and linguistic tradition of immense historical depth and intellectual significance. Russian is spoken across Russia, significant parts of the former Soviet Union, and communities worldwide, and while the geopolitical context has shifted significantly in recent years, understanding the Russian-speaking world remains essential for those working in international relations, energy, security, Central Asian business, and the analysis of post-Soviet societies. At Glasgow you will study this five-year full-time programme, which includes a sandwich year and a work placement, giving you professional experience alongside your dual academic training. The business and management component gives you a structured understanding of both the theoretical and practical dimensions of organisations and management, covering strategy, finance, marketing, operations, and the analytical skills that effective business leadership requires. Your Russian language study will develop you from your current level of proficiency towards high competence across all four skills, alongside engagement with Russian literature, history, culture, and the political and social context of the Russian-speaking world. Graduates of business and management with Russian are well placed for careers in international business, trade, diplomacy, intelligence and security analysis, journalism, think-tanks, energy companies operating in Russia and Central Asia, international law, and policy organisations concerned with Russia and the former Soviet space. The combination of commercial training and language expertise is distinctive and valuable in any context where understanding Russian-language sources, partners, or markets is required. Postgraduate study in international business, Russian and East European studies, or security and intelligence is a natural continuation for those who wish to develop their expertise further.
