BA Business Management
About this course
Business management is the discipline that addresses how organisations are led, planned, and run. It encompasses strategy, finance, marketing, operations, human resources, and organisational behaviour, asking how businesses and other organisations can be structured and directed to achieve their goals. Effective management requires both analytical rigour and interpersonal skill, and degree-level study in business management develops both, alongside an awareness of the ethical, legal, and social contexts in which organisations operate. At University College Birmingham, this three-year, full-time programme includes a sandwich year and a work placement, giving you extended professional experience as part of the degree. UCB has a strong vocational tradition and close links to employers across the West Midlands and beyond, and the placement is central to what the degree offers: the opportunity to apply your management knowledge in a real organisational context, to develop professional networks, and to return to your final year with a grounded understanding of how business works in practice. Across the academic programme you will study the core disciplines of business management, including strategic management, financial and management accounting, marketing, operations management, and people management, alongside modules that develop your awareness of entrepreneurship, business ethics, and the global business environment. A typical entry tariff of 72 UCAS points reflects a genuinely accessible programme that welcomes students from a wide range of prior academic backgrounds. Business management develops organisational thinking, communication skills, and the ability to analyse and solve problems in complex, real-world contexts. Graduates work in management roles across virtually every sector, including retail, hospitality, healthcare, logistics, finance, the public sector, and the charity sector. Many move into management trainee programmes with larger organisations. Others pursue further study, including professional qualifications in management, human resources, or accountancy.
