MA Business Management and Finance
About this course
Business management and finance is a combination that addresses two of the most central questions in organisational life: how do you lead and coordinate people and processes to achieve goals, and how do you raise, allocate and manage money to support them? Management provides the strategic, operational and human dimensions, while finance gives you the analytical tools to understand how value is created, how risk is assessed and how capital flows through businesses and markets. Together they form a versatile foundation for careers in almost every kind of organisation. At the University of Aberdeen, this four-year full-time programme includes a year abroad, which sits within a broader educational tradition that values international perspective. You will learn how management and organisations function in a fast-moving global environment, how market influences are driven by global, regional and local economic forces, and how financial decision-making at the firm level connects to the wider economy. The combination of management breadth with financial analytical rigour makes Aberdeen's programme well suited to students who want to be effective across both commercial and financial functions. You will study corporate finance, financial reporting and analysis, investment and portfolio management, strategy, marketing, organisational behaviour and human resource management. Quantitative methods and financial modelling are developed alongside leadership, communication and the ethical dimensions of business decision-making. Graduates go on to careers in financial management, banking, investment, management consultancy, commercial management, accounting and the civil service, as well as general management roles across all sectors. The breadth of the combination means graduates are competitive across a wide range of employers. Further study in finance, business, management or an MBA is a natural option for those who want to develop further or move into senior leadership roles.
