BA Business Management
About this course
Business management is the study of how organisations are structured, led, and operated to create value, and how the decisions made by managers shape outcomes for firms, employees, customers, and wider society. It encompasses strategy, marketing, finance, human resource management, operations, and the analytical and leadership skills needed to navigate complex commercial and organisational environments. A business management degree prepares graduates for the breadth of challenges they will encounter in professional and commercial life, developing both specialist knowledge and the capacity to work effectively with people and information. At Abertay University, this four-year full-time programme takes you through the core disciplines of management while allowing increasing specialisation as the degree progresses. You will study strategic management, consumer behaviour, financial analysis, organisational behaviour, entrepreneurship, and the skills needed to manage projects and people in real business contexts. Abertay's distinctive focus on games, technology, and creative industries means the programme is shaped by an awareness of digital business contexts alongside traditional commercial environments. A year abroad is incorporated into the programme, giving you the opportunity to study at a partner institution and develop the international perspective that is increasingly important in contemporary business management. Business management graduates are among the most versatile in the graduate labour market, entering careers in management roles across virtually every sector, including financial services, retail, healthcare, media, public services, technology, and manufacturing. Typical starting points include management trainee schemes, graduate analyst roles, and junior management positions, with strong progression opportunities as skills and experience develop. Many graduates also pursue postgraduate study in business, management, or specialist fields, or professional qualifications with bodies such as the Chartered Management Institute.
