BSc Business Entrepreneurship with Placement
About this course
Business entrepreneurship is the study of how new value is created: how ideas become ventures, how ventures attract resources and customers, and how entrepreneurs navigate the uncertainty, creativity, and practical challenges of building something from nothing. It is a field that combines the analytical rigour of business education with the risk tolerance, creative thinking, and practical orientation that entrepreneurial activity demands. Understanding entrepreneurship matters not only for those who want to start their own businesses but for anyone who wants to bring innovative thinking to an established organisation. At Southampton this four-year full-time BSc combines a business management education with a sustained focus on entrepreneurship and its role in the economy and society. You will gain the practical skills to plan, promote, finance, and grow a business venture, studying strategy, marketing, finance, and operations within an entrepreneurial frame that emphasises initiative, innovation, and the creation of new value. A year-long paid work placement is embedded in the degree, giving you real-world professional experience in a business environment before you graduate. This placement is valuable not only for the skills it develops but for the networks and practical understanding it provides. The programme is designed to produce graduates who can either launch their own ventures or bring entrepreneurial thinking to existing organisations, recognising that innovation and adaptability are valued in both contexts. Graduates move into entrepreneurship and start-up ventures, business development, innovation management, consultancy, investment, product management, and corporate strategy. The combination of business foundations and entrepreneurial thinking is valued across sectors, including technology, creative industries, social enterprise, and finance. Many graduates also go on to postgraduate study in entrepreneurship, business, or management.
