BSc Business and Management (Year in Business)
About this course
Business and management is a discipline that develops the knowledge, analytical skills, and commercial judgement needed to lead and operate in organisations of all kinds. At its best, it is a subject that moves beyond frameworks and techniques to engage with the real challenges of creating change, building teams, making decisions under uncertainty, and taking responsibility for outcomes in complex and competitive environments. Royal Holloway's approach to business and management is oriented towards developing leaders who see opportunities where others see obstacles, equipped with the frameworks, mindsets, and capabilities to tackle global issues and contribute to transforming the organisations and sectors in which they work. At Royal Holloway and Bedford New College, this four-year programme includes a Year in Business, giving you a year of structured professional experience embedded within the degree. This is not a short placement but an extended period working in a real organisation, developing your professional skills and judgment in practice, building professional networks, and gaining the kind of applied experience that significantly strengthens your employability. The programme also includes a year abroad, giving you the opportunity to engage with business and management education in a different national and cultural context. You will study the core management disciplines, including strategy, marketing, finance, and organisational behaviour, alongside the more critical and conceptual content that prepares you to engage thoughtfully with how business affects society and the environment. Graduates from business and management programmes move into a wide range of careers, including management consulting, financial services, marketing, operations, human resources, entrepreneurship, and roles in the public and third sectors. The Year in Business is a significant advantage in competing for graduate roles. Postgraduate study in business, management, or a specialist field is also a natural option.
