BSc Biomedical Sciences with Entrepreneurship
About this course
Biomedical sciences with entrepreneurship is designed for students who want to combine deep scientific knowledge of health and disease with the skills to translate that knowledge into products, services, and organisations that make a difference. Biomedical sciences covers the biological and chemical foundations of medicine, from cell biology, genetics, and biochemistry through to immunology, pharmacology, and the molecular mechanisms of disease. Entrepreneurship adds the frameworks and practical skills needed to take scientific ideas through to commercial or social applications: identifying opportunities, understanding markets, developing business models, managing innovation, and navigating the complex regulatory and funding landscapes of the life sciences sector. At the University of Manchester, this four-year programme includes a foundation year that gives all students the scientific grounding needed to enter the biomedical sciences curriculum at the level required, ensuring a consistent foundation before the main degree begins. Manchester is one of the UK's major biomedical research centres, with strengths across many areas of biomedical science, and the programme connects students to active research and to the innovation ecosystem around the university. Alongside core biomedical science content, you will engage with entrepreneurial thinking, business development, intellectual property, and the commercialisation processes that turn scientific discoveries into therapies, diagnostics, and health technologies. Graduates move into careers in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries, clinical research, health technology development, regulatory affairs, and science policy. The entrepreneurship training opens pathways into venture capital, biomedical innovation consultancy, health-focused start-ups, and roles within the innovation and technology transfer offices of universities and research institutions. Many graduates pursue postgraduate study, whether a research degree deepening their biomedical science expertise or a business qualification strengthening the commercial dimension of their profile.
