Biomedical science investigates the molecular, cellular, and physiological processes that underlie human health and disease. It is the discipline that provides the scientific foundation for clinical diagnosis and treatment, encompassing haematology, microbiology, clinical biochemistry, immunology, and cellular pathology. For students who want to understand the biology of the body at a deep level, and who are drawn to the laboratory side of healthcare rather than direct patient contact, biomedical science offers a rigorous and rewarding degree. At the University of Sussex this three-year full-time programme includes a foundation year option and gives students hands-on practical experience in the labs from Year 1. As you progress through the degree, you will have the opportunity to explore real human specimens in anatomy laboratory classes, adding a direct and distinctive dimension to your understanding of the body. The course also includes a sandwich placement year, a year abroad, and a work placement component, meaning you will have substantial professional experience and international exposure before you graduate. The typical entry tariff of 120 points reflects the standard expected of students entering the programme.
