About this course

Biomedical science is the scientific study of human health and disease, concerned with the laboratory disciplines that underpin clinical diagnosis, medical research, and the development of new treatments. It draws on biochemistry, microbiology, haematology, immunology, histopathology, and molecular biology to understand the mechanisms of disease and to develop the analytical tools used in clinical laboratories to detect and monitor it. Biomedical scientists are the unseen professionals behind every diagnostic test, ensuring that the results clinicians use to make life-or-death decisions are accurate and reliable. At Edinburgh Napier this part-time programme prepares you for a career as a biomedical scientist, supported by a research-active biomedical science group with links to healthcare industries, research institutes, and the NHS.
