Global food production must increase to meet the needs of a growing population, while simultaneously reducing its environmental footprint, adapting to climate change, and becoming more resilient and sustainable. Modern agriculture sits at the intersection of science, technology, business, and environmental stewardship, drawing on disciplines from soil science and crop biology to economics, engineering, and data analytics. At the University of Reading, this four-year programme includes an international foundation year designed to prepare students who are joining from outside the UK higher education system, or who want additional preparation before entering the main degree. The foundation year builds the scientific, mathematical, and academic skills needed for degree-level study in agriculture.
