About this course

Aeronautical engineering is concerned with the design, construction, and operation of aircraft and the systems that make powered flight possible. It encompasses aerodynamics, structural analysis, propulsion, materials science, and flight control, as well as the safety engineering and systems integration needed to ensure that aircraft operate reliably in demanding conditions. The discipline is inherently multidisciplinary, and aeronautical engineers must think simultaneously about performance, efficiency, safety, environmental impact, and manufacturing feasibility. At Glasgow, aeronautical engineering addresses how aircraft are designed, constructed, and powered, how they are used, and how they are controlled for safe operation. This five-year full-time MEng programme provides a rigorous engineering education that develops the depth of technical understanding required for professional engineering practice at the highest level. A year abroad gives you the opportunity to study at a partner institution and to experience engineering education in an international context, broadening your perspective and professional network. The typical entry tariff is 256 points, reflecting the high academic standards the programme demands. Graduates of aeronautical engineering programmes work in the aerospace and defence industries, in aviation, in space technology, and in adjacent engineering sectors where the skills developed in aeronautical engineering, including aerodynamics, structures, and systems integration, are applicable. The MEng qualification provides the academic foundation for Chartered Engineer status with the Royal Aeronautical Society and other professional bodies. Many graduates also go on to postgraduate research in aerospace engineering, flight dynamics, or materials science, where the depth of their engineering training provides excellent preparation.
