BN Adult Nursing (Distance Learning)
About this course
Adult nursing is one of the most important healthcare professions, concerned with the assessment, planning, and delivery of care to adults with acute, chronic, and complex health needs in hospital, community, and primary care settings. Adult nurses work with patients across the full lifespan from early adulthood to old age, managing both physical and psychological dimensions of illness and recovery, and coordinating care with the full range of healthcare professionals and with patients' families and carers. The role requires clinical knowledge, practical skill, and the human qualities of compassion, communication, and resilience. Bangor University offers this three-year full-time adult nursing programme with a distance learning component, a relatively unusual model for a nursing degree. Nursing cannot be delivered entirely at a distance because clinical practice is central to the qualification, but the distance learning element gives greater flexibility in how the academic components of the programme are engaged with, which can make the degree more accessible to students who cannot easily attend campus for every teaching session. The programme leads to registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council, which requires both academic achievement and the completion of substantial supervised clinical hours in real healthcare settings. Bangor's strong connections to NHS health boards in Wales support the placement programme. Qualifying as an adult nurse opens a career across the breadth of the NHS and the independent and voluntary sector. Newly qualified nurses typically begin in hospital acute care or in community nursing posts, and with experience can progress into specialist areas such as oncology, critical care, cardiology, diabetes care, or mental health liaison. Leadership roles, advanced clinical practice, nurse prescribing, and nursing education are all available career progressions. Postgraduate study in nursing, advanced practice, or healthcare management is available for those who want to move into senior or specialist roles.
