About this course

Acting is the art of embodying character and bringing narrative to life through voice, movement, imagination, and presence. Professional actor training is among the most demanding and holistic forms of performance education, requiring students to work simultaneously on their physical and vocal instrument, their imaginative and emotional range, and their ability to collaborate within an ensemble. Theatre has been a cornerstone of cultural life for millennia, and contemporary acting encompasses stage performance, television, film, digital media, voice work, and community and applied theatre, meaning that trained actors today work across a wider range of contexts than ever before. Italia Conti, established in 1911 and one of the most respected performing arts institutions in the UK, delivers this three-year full-time programme in partnership with the University of Chichester. You will receive intensive training in acting technique, movement, voice, singing, and a range of theatrical styles and contexts, developing the range and discipline that professional performance demands. The training environment is intensive and conservatoire-based, reflecting the realities of professional life in the performing arts, and you will build a body of practical work that prepares you for the industry from the outset. Graduates from actor training programmes pursue careers in theatre, film, television, radio, voiceover, physical theatre, site-specific performance, and applied and community theatre contexts. Italia Conti has a long track record of producing professional actors who work at the highest levels of the industry. Many graduates also develop careers in adjacent fields including directing, teaching, writing, casting, and performance coaching, or go on to postgraduate study in performance, drama, or applied theatre.
