BA Acting For Screen
About this course
Acting for screen is a distinct discipline from stage acting, shaped by the demands of a medium in which the camera and the edit determine what an audience sees and how emotion is conveyed. Screen performance requires an understanding of how the camera works, how to calibrate a performance for different shot sizes, how to maintain continuity across a non-linear shooting process, and how to be psychologically present and truthful in ways that read on screen. From drama and feature film through to digital content creation, online promotion, and social media, the screen industries are vast and varied. At Leeds Arts University, this three-year full-time programme develops the creative, technical, and professional skills required to thrive in today's screen industries. You will train in screen acting technique, script analysis, character development, and the practicalities of working on set, as well as engaging with the wider context of screen production, from casting and the industry structure to self-promotion and the digital landscape. The programme is designed to develop both your artistic practice and your professional identity as a screen performer, with a strong emphasis on building the versatility the contemporary screen actor needs. Entry typically requires around 120 UCAS tariff points. Graduates pursue careers as actors in television, film, and digital content, as well as in voice acting, motion capture, corporate video, and a range of performance-adjacent roles in media and communications. Leeds Arts University's creative environment and industry connections support graduates in building their professional networks and portfolios during the programme, which is central to entering the industry after graduation.
