BSc Accounting and Finance with Study Abroad
About this course
Accounting and finance is a degree that develops the technical knowledge and analytical skills needed to understand how organisations report their financial performance and how financial decisions are made. Accounting is concerned with the preparation, interpretation and audit of financial statements, the management of financial information within organisations, and the regulatory and ethical frameworks that govern financial reporting. Finance focuses on how capital is allocated, how investments are evaluated, how risk is managed and how financial markets function. Together they form a degree that is directly relevant to a wide range of professional careers in business and financial services. At Southampton, this four-year programme includes a year spent studying at one of the university's international partner institutions, which is an important distinguishing feature. Studying abroad for a year develops both your academic breadth, as you encounter different intellectual traditions and approaches to accounting and finance, and your personal development and international perspective, which is increasingly valued by employers in global financial services. You will also develop your financial and managerial information skills, gaining a sound understanding of investment and finance over the course of the degree. Southampton is a research-intensive university with a respected business school, and the programme benefits from teaching by faculty engaged in research that shapes accounting and finance practice and policy. Graduates move into professional practice in accounting, auditing, corporate finance, investment banking, asset management, financial analysis, treasury and financial management roles across the public and private sectors. Many graduates pursue professional qualifications with the ICAEW, ACCA, CIMA or the CFA Institute alongside or after the degree. Postgraduate study in accounting, finance or business is a natural option.
