BSc Accounting and Business Management
About this course
Accounting and business management brings together two disciplines that are mutually reinforcing at the heart of every successful organisation. Accounting provides the technical and analytical foundations for recording, reporting, and interpreting financial information, the language through which business performance is measured and communicated. Business management provides the strategic, operational, and interpersonal skills needed to plan, organise, and lead organisations effectively. Together, they produce graduates who understand both how money flows through organisations and how those organisations are managed and developed. At Brunel University London, this three-year full-time programme reflects the reality that today's accountants are far more than recorders of financial data. They are key players in managing business, contributing to strategy, investment decisions, and business sustainability. You will develop technical accounting skills, including financial reporting, cost accounting, auditing, and taxation, alongside a thorough grounding in management disciplines such as strategy, marketing, human resources, and operations. The combination means you will be able to communicate credibly with financial specialists and non-financial managers alike, and to contribute meaningfully to business decisions from an informed quantitative standpoint. You will develop skills in financial analysis, business planning, professional communication, and the critical evaluation of business situations, as well as the quantitative and analytical capabilities that accounting demands. Graduates of accounting and business management go on to careers in audit, financial management, management accounting, business analysis, consultancy, banking, and general management across a wide range of sectors. Many pursue professional qualifications with bodies such as ACCA, CIMA, or ICAEW as they build their careers. Postgraduate study in accounting, finance, or business administration is a route for those wishing to specialise further or move into more senior roles.
