BAcc Accountancy with Finance
About this course
Accountancy with finance is a degree that develops rigorous professional and analytical skills in two closely related areas. Accountancy is the system through which organisations record, report, and control their financial activities, providing the information that managers, investors, and regulators need to make sound decisions. Finance extends that foundation into the analysis of investment, risk, and the operation of financial markets, asking how capital is allocated, how risk is measured and managed, and how organisations and individuals make decisions about money over time. Together, the two areas form the core of the financial professions that underpin every sector of the economy. At the University of Glasgow, this four-year, full-time degree develops your expertise in both areas through a programme that is well regarded within the accountancy profession. Guest speakers from professional practice are a regular feature, giving you the opportunity to hear directly from practitioners, to understand the real-world contexts in which accountancy and finance expertise are applied, and to begin building the professional networks that will matter when you graduate. The programme includes a year abroad, giving you an international dimension to your financial education that is increasingly relevant in a globalised economy. Graduates from this degree are strongly positioned for careers in accountancy practice, where many go on to pursue chartered qualification with bodies such as ICAS, ICAEW, ACCA, or CIMA, with exemptions reducing the additional study required. Others move into corporate finance, investment analysis, treasury management, banking, financial planning, or management consultancy. The combination of accountancy with finance gives graduates both the technical depth of accounting knowledge and the broader analytical skills of finance, which is valued by employers across many sectors. Postgraduate study in accounting, finance, or business administration is an option for those who want to deepen their expertise further.
